Flange standards worldwide

A flange from Japan is called 10K, one from the USA Class 150, one from Europe PN 16 – and none of them simply fits the other. For each standards world, this page shows in one row what the standard is called, how pressure rating, size and facing are named there, whether it fits EN 1092-1 and where to continue with us. It is a signpost, not a dimension table: figures only appear on our dimension pages.

A signpost, not a dimension table. The designations are checked against register extracts of the standards bodies. “Appears to fit” means: same nominal size, similar pressure level – but bolt circle, bolts or facing may differ. Before installation, the dimension tables of both sides count.

Same name, not the same thing

PN 16, Class 150 and 16K sound like the same pressure rating and are not. PN is a nominal pressure in bar at room temperature, Class a pressure class with its own pressure-temperature table per material group, K the Japanese rating in kgf/cm². Size has three names as well: DN 100, NPS 4 and 100A mean the same pipe, but not the same flange dimensions. Which pairings fit, appear to fit or do not fit is shown on Mixing standards worlds; the standards translator converts individual values.

Facings per standards world

The facing has a different name in every world too: EN 1092-1 knows types A to H, ASME B16.5 RF, FF and RTJ, JIS FF and RF, GOST types A to M. A flat-face type A flange and an FF flange are similar, type B1 and RF as well – but the height of the raised face and the surface finish follow different rules. The assignment of the old DIN types to EN 1092-1 with profile pictures is on our flange page.

How to inquire

Always state standard, pressure rating and size in the wording of the standards world your drawing comes from – “GOST 33259, PN 16, DN 100, type B” or “JIS B 2220, 10K, 100A” rather than a translation. We then check whether a part from stock fits or whether a counterpart to the foreign standard has to be sourced.

Frequently asked questions

Which flange standards exist worldwide and which fit EN 1092-1?

One line per standards world - standard, pressure rating, size, facing and whether it fits EN (yes, apparently, no); only EN and ISO 7005-1 fit, ASME, JIS, GOST, GB/T and AS are worlds of their own.

Is there a flange standard valid worldwide?

No. ISO 7005-1 tried to combine EN and ASME in one standard but did not prevail in practice: Europe works with EN 1092-1, the USA with ASME B16.5 and B16.47, Japan with JIS B 2220.

Does a GOST flange fit an EN flange?

Often it appears to: nominal size and pressure rating carry the same numbers, and many connection dimensions agree. Bolt circle, number of bolts and facing still have to be compared case by case – which is why the row says “appears to fit”.

Why do you have a standard page for JIS but not for GOST?

We hold JIS B 2220 and have checked its tables. For GOST, GB/T, BS and AS we only show the signpost; whether a standards world gets its own dimension page depends on demand.

A standard from another world?

Give us the standard, pressure rating and size exactly as your documents state them – we will tell you what fits from stock and what needs a counterpart.
