Basics per component

Bend radius: what 2D, 3D and 5D mean

The number before the D tells how often the nominal size fits into twice the bend radius: twice for a 2D elbow, three times for 3D, five times for 5D. The radius is measured at the pipe axis. For a 219.1 mm pipe (DN 200, 8 inch) that is 2R = 406, 610 and 1,020 mm. Measured against the outside diameter the radius is smaller than the number suggests – that is why the dimension table gives R and the dimension to the outside of the bend for every size.

Other fittings

Screwed instead of welded: malleable iron threaded fittings and stainless steel threaded fittings. Pressed: press fitting systems.

Fittings and pipes to other standard worlds – JIS, GOST, GB or ISO – are compared side by side in Pipe and fitting standards worldwide.
